Public Comment During Meetings
Pursuant to Colorado’s Open Meeting Laws, the Lamar City Council provides a space for public comment during each council meeting. The Council encourages in person public input on topics on agenda items or other items that are a concern for the public. This forum allows for the public to provide input and make comments to the Council but is not a proper forum if the public desires Council dialog or engagement beyond comments. If the public desires such dialog or engagement beyond the public comment section with Council, then the public can request the City Administrator place an item on the next agenda for a Work Session or Town Hall style forum. The City Administrator will consider all public requests to help assist with the most appropriate forum, with such decision at the discretion of the Administrator.
- Please state your name, title, organization and address.
- All comments should be addressed to the City Council as a whole.
- This is a time for the community to provide input to the Council. Please note that the Council and staff will not engage in dialogue at this time.
- Staff will be responsible for recording input or questions made during this time and will work to provide responses at a later date.
- Individuals who are not heard during public comment are encouraged to provide written comments to their Ward representative for Council of the City of Lamar.
- The Council reserves the right to limit the time available for public comment to ensure adequate time to conduct its regular business.
- Any exception will be at the discretion of the Council.
- It is recommended that:
- a. All comments be brief, to the point and concise.
- b. If one believes an issue needs to be explained in-depth, and the individual may bring handouts and pass them to staff prior to making comments. Handouts should include individual’s name and date of the meeting on the handout.
- c. The speaker should not expect the Council or staff to answer questions.
- d. The speaker should not attempt to argue or debate with the Council.
- e. The Council will not discuss personnel matters. Any such matters should be addressed privately with the City Administrator or Ward Council member.
- A time limit of three (3) minutes per comment will be enforced. All speakers will be held to this time limit.
- When that time expires, the speaker is permitted to complete a sentence but should make no further remarks.
- Speakers may not allot their time to other participants.
- Any exception will be at the discretion of the council. At the discretion of Council, public comment may be closed and reopened at a later time or date to be announced.
